We adopted a dog today! Her Mom has to go to assisted living and can no longer keep her. She is a five year old, eleven pound sweetie. 

These are a few of the things that came with her that I will toss ASAP. We will feed her Orijen. Better food will be better for her body and better spirit. 

Why? 

Let’s start with the dog food. Pet food is listed by heaviest ingredient first. The first two ingredients are good, then it goes downhill from there. Ground rice, rice can be a good ingredient, but it needs to be whole, not partial. Soy is not digestible by dogs. Corn is the source of many allergies and it considered filler, cheap filler at that. 

Dried plain beet pulp, beet pulp is the garbage leftover from making sugar. (It’s a win for the sugar manufacturers, get rid of their trash and cheap ingredient for pet food manufacturers.) Brown rice, that’s good, but it’s far down the list, so not really not much good. More corn, really? Dried peas and carrots are fine, but far down the list.  

The actual kibble has three different colors, food coloring is not desirable in pet food, good pet food is not dyed. 

Another way to know you have a garbage food in your hands is how much you need to feed your dog. Rachel Ray’s food says for a 12 pound dog 1 1/4 cups?? Orijen for 11 pound dog is 3/4 of a cup. 

Better food means more nutrition is available for your dog’s body, which means less poo!! You are what you eat!

Dingo Twist Sticks. After I see they are made in China, all stop! China is not a place anyone’s food should come from. Rawhides made outside of the USA can be preserved with formaldehyde, a probable carcinogen. Then they are made with salt and sugar?? And more dye.  If you give your dog rawhide it needs to come from USA or Canada.

By now you can guess what I have to say about milk bone. 

I don’t really feel very secure walking a dog on a retractable leash. I’ll probably keep it, but not use it much.

We are so lucky to have a little girl like this come to us. Chon said maybe I would come home from my house sit in Forks with a dog. I told my girl friend I did animal rescue with and she found us a dog!
