Battle Ground Cat Sitter
Hummingbirds
The most important part of cat sitting is the cats, of course.
I feed them white sugar and tap water. ¼ sugar to ¾ water. I make one cup in the winter and two cups in the summer (I have two feeders in the summer). ¼ cup sugar then pour in some boiling water to dissolve the sugar and after it cools down I add tap water to equal one cup. I wash the feeder every time I change the feeder water. I try to change it before it turns cloudy. I use an old tooth brush and small round brush. My second feeder came with a pipe cleaner for cleaning.
Caring for your wild birds is part of my job too. We have hummingbirds in Battle Ground, WA year around! I enjoy seeing them daily.

We have one feeder that we received as a wedding present, it will be 18 years old this month. I have had a couple that were bottles with plugs on the bottom they both leaked.
Today on our walk I saw some one had dyed their hummer water. That is not necessary. hummers are so small that any unnecessary additive can be harmful.
I did some exploring on the ‘net for more information on feeding hummers.
