Trying to make friends with the yard cat.
They loaned me a trap, I fed the cat in the open trap and on the seventh day I set the trap.
The cat was in the trap! She spent the night in my car with a blanket over her. I drove her to Feral Cat Coalition for her spay Friday AM. She didn’t make a sound.
When I picked her up I found out she was a she and had already been spayed. They did not know if she was feral or tame, that was up to us. I sure didn’t plan well, I had to go pick her up at 4:00 on a Friday in Portland. TRAFFIC. But, she didn’t care, still groggy from the anesthetic.
Let her spend one more night in the car. then let her out in the bathroom. We crossed our fingers she was tame and not feral. She is recovering in our tiny bathroom, seriously you can wash your hands from the toilet. She moved in to the closet on top of our “dog” towels. When we reach into the closet to pet her she is not defensive at all! Now, Sunday morning she is purring up a storm! And she likes to be petted.
Izabella or Izzy as we will call her is safe at last and we are both excited to add her to our family.
I suspect someone dropped her. Poor little girl. She has been living outside on her own for a few months. Now, we are all lucky and she is on her way to becoming part of our family.
They did flea treat her, but in soon after I got her back in Battle Ground, Daisy our dog began to itch. Today, I treated everyone for fleas. I only treat after I know we have fleas. I consider flea treatment as a pesticide and not good for my pets or my husband and I. In all of my years of pet sitting I never brought fleas home. It’s been three years since the last time I treated for fleas.
I had a fleas herbal treatment in my pet box, so I put that on the carpet with some baking soda. I’ll vacuum it up when I’m done here. Although, just vacuuming should be fine.
My next point of business will be getting some Comfort Zone with Feliway. We use this when we have moved and there are changes. A new cat is a BIG change for our new dog and our old cats. More on Feliway
We were thinking about adopting a kitten, but not for awhile. But the world does not conform with our plans very often, does it. Izzy is a welcome addition to our family. Distracts us from the loss of our Otis, who we miss dearly.
I am glad we won’t have to care for her as a feral cat. I helped care for a feral colony for seven years. It was rewarding, but heartbreaking. Feral cats don’t let you know what happened to them when they die, they just disappear. The colony had gotten down to three cats, then two, then one and when he was gone, we would drive by looking for him for a few weeks. Now Izzy will live a life in a home with humans who love her and care for her. Her safety will be a given.
